Help page for VBCPS Student Portal

There is no requirement to use Internet Explorer (IE); however, the Portal is based on Microsoft software and there may be features that will not be available with another browser. All of the base functionality works fine with Firefox or Netscape. The AOL, MSN, People PC, Netzero browsers do not work. If you use one of these browsers, make your connection, then minimize and run IE or Firefox to connect. If you have a dial-up connection, use your Internet services provider to access the Internet, then minimize and run IE or Firefox to connect.

For all the below examples, a student's ID is represented by 012345. An actual student ID should be substituted anywhere 012345 is seen. No valid student ID actually starts with 0. A teacher/staff member login ID is represented in the example below by IMTEACH. An actual network login ID should be substituted anywhere IMTEACH is seen.

Send your suggestions for topics to be included on this help page, can be sent to Suzie Boyce in the Department of Technology.

  1. In MS Office 2007, click on the Office Button Office 2007 icon.
  2. Then choose Save As Word 97 - 2003 Document (or Excel Workbook or PowerPoint Presentation, etc.)

Problem: Typing everything in correctly, still cannot get in
Possible Solution:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options
  2. Click the Security tab, and then click a security zone: Local intranet sites
  3. Click the Sites button. If you clicked Local intranet in step 2, click Advanced
  4. Add http://studentportal.vbschools.com and http://portal.vbschools.com and to the list of web sites, and then click Add
  5. When you are finished adding sites, click Close, and then click OK
  6. Close the windows, close IE and try again

If you want to add a website to the list of trusted sites, but the site is not secured (the address begins with HTTP instead of HTTPS), clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box before adding the address. If that option is selected, you can only add secure websites to the list.

Problem: Changed my password at school and now cannot get in
Possible Solution:

  1. Click on Start, click on Control Panel
  2. and then double-click User Accounts, click on the Advanced tab, then click on Manage Passwords
  3. If you see one of the portal sites listed, highlight the site, and click the Remove button
  4. Close the windows, close IE and try again.
